Madras HC refuses to allow for reopening of Vedanta’s copper smelter

CHENNAI: The Madras high court refused to make it possible for reopening of Vedanta’s copper smelter on Tuesday. The smelter has been shut for more than two yrs over pollution problems. In May perhaps 2018, 13 people today died in protest in opposition to alleged pollution from the smelter. A week right after that, the Tamil Nadu govt requested the smelter shut. A spokeswoman for Sterlite Copper, a unit of Vedanta Ltd, did not straight away remark on the issue. A lawyer for the Tamil Nadu govt did not react to messages and calls looking for remark on the court docket judgment.
